Friends of the Library offer college scholarship

In partnership with the Friends of the Grand Prairie Library, the Grand Prairie Public Library System will hold a scholarship competition for seniors planning to attend college in the fall of 2018. The winner will be awarded $1,000 toward their college tuition.

In order to qualify, students must

  • be a Grand Prairie resident and a high school senior
  • plan to enroll in a college or university as a freshman in the fall of 2018
  • have an active Grand Prairie Library Card
  • have volunteered a minimum of 10 hours at a Grand Prairie Library location before the close of the scholarship 

 

Applicants are required to provide a personal statement not to exceed 1,000 words (or one page) about themselves and their ambitions after high school.

In addition to a personal statement, applicants will choose one of  three topics and respond in no more than 2,500 words (or 2 pages).

  • What is your favorite book, and how has this book had an impact on your life?
  • What role does the library play in local and global communities?  How do you see this changing in the future?
  • What has been your most rewarding educational experience thus far? How has this experience prepared you for life after high school? 

Apply for the scholarship between Oct. 11, 2017 and March 19, 2018. Apply to volunteer here.
