Free 'Green Prairie University' Workshop Offered to Grand Prairie Residents
Beat the heat and save money on your water bill this summer by attending the inaugural Green Prairie University from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, July 29, 2017, at the Main Library, 901 Conover Drive.
This free five-hour workshop teaches you how to conserve water by making quick fixes to your irrigation system, utilizing drought tolerant plants in a hanging basket, and building your own compost bin. Participants earn a certificate for course completion.
You can also learn about rain barrels with Texas A&M Agrilife’s Water University during a pre-workshop class beginning at 8:45 a.m. The rain barrel class costs $50, which covers the cost of supplies and the take-home barrel.

8:45 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. — Rain Barrel Class with Texas A&M Agrilife (for this optional class, registration and payment is required at AgriLife webpage)
10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. — Check-in
10:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. — Welcome and Housekeeping — official start
10:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. — Sprinkler System Quick Fixes Class with Texas A&M Agrilife
12:05 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. — Lunch and Drought Tolerant Hanging Basket
1:25 p.m. to 2:40 p.m. — Composting Basics and Compost Bin Build
2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. — Closing and Certificate Pickup
