The Grand Prairie Libraries invite kids to get “Wild About Reading” this summer. As part of their summer reading club, all Grand Prairie Libraries offer free Monday performances for kids.

Programs will be at 10:30 am (Shotwell branch), 1 pm  (Main Library) and 3:30 pm (Warmack branch).

Space is limited at the Warmack branch, but extra street parking will be available.

Summer Schedule:

June 5: Bandan Koro African Drum and Dance Ensemble
SRC starts off with a bang with this high energy, educational and interactive performance. Experience the delightful sounds of West Africa while moving to the beat!

June 12: Zumba with Ernesto from United Dance Academy
Show us how you’re wild about reading with this exhilarating dance program that blends upbeat world rhythms with family fun.

June 19: It’s Book Time with Ronald McDonald
Share your excitement for reading and fun with Ronald McDonald. This highly engaging program will inspire children to get wild about reading.

June 26: Where the Wild Things Are
See one of your favorite picture books come to life. Create a Wild Thing mask, make your own foil boat and test it to see if it sinks or floats, show off your dance moves at the Wild Rumpus, have your picture taken as Max with the Wild Things, and create your own gold crown just like Max. Supplies are limited.

No program July 3.

July 10: Wildlife on the Move: Boas Versus Pythons
Think you know everything about snakes? Come to this wild program featuring some of the smaller and gentler members of this family—from Africa, Australia, North America, South America and Southeast Asia—and learn a lot more!

July 17: Children’s Singer and Songwriter Joe McDermott
We are wild about Joe McDermott, one of the nation’s top children’s music recording artists with a background in early childhood. Join us for this fun and engaging family concert.

July 24: Science of Spin with Yo-Yo’s
Come see the amazing spinning arts with yo-yo, spin top and diablo demonstrations that also include some “getting started” tips on yo-yoing and a little fun Science of Spin along the way.

July 31: Le Theatre de Marionette
Join us for a theatrical experience of a lifetime with Le Theatre de Marionette’s “Silly Strings,” a fast-paced and silly medley of acts featuring a host of silly characters as hand-crafted works of art.

August 7: Indoor Petting Zoo by Grisham Farms
Are you wild about animals? Get up close and personal with small animals like rabbits, chinchillas, hedgehogs and lizards in this walk through program. Finish the petting zoo by selecting from a variety of animal books to keep you wild about reading!

August 14: Kid’s Yoga
Come practice mindfulness in yoga. Have fun learning breathing techniques and poses to promote physical fitness and relaxation. This program will put you in the mood to curl up and escape with a good book.

Due to space limitations, we cannot accommodate daycares who have not made prior arrangements with us. Please contact Aerial at ahobson@gptx.org if you are interested in bringing a daycare to one of our events.
