Grand Prairie Celebrates Opening of Oakdale Road Extension
Mayor Ron Jensen and officials from the City of Grand Prairie celebrated the grand opening of the Oakdale Road extension to Roy Orr Boulevard on Tuesday, April 11, with a ribbon cutting.
The new four-lane thoroughfare provides a direct connection to Roy Orr Boulevard, and eliminates a dog leg in the road. A traffic signal at the intersection of Roy Orr and Oakdale Road, street lighting, storm drainage and utility adjustments are included in the $1.6 million project.
“Grand Prairie is experiencing extensive growth in this part of town,” said Mayor Ron Jensen. “This project provides easier access to the area, which will encourage additional development.”
The Oakdale extension was designed by Freese and Nichols, and construction began in September 2016. Phase II construction to widen the roadway to the east and connect it with SH 161 will begin in the next few years.
