Post Date:02/07/2017

Grand Prairie ISD Counseling Services received a Keep America Beautiful Youth Recognition Award at Keep America Beautiful’s National Awards Ceremony, which recently took place during Keep America Beautiful’s 2017 National Conference in Washington, D.C.

Grand Prairie ISD Counseling Services was one of more than 80 individuals and organizations from communities across America to receive national recognition. Keep America Beautiful’s National Awards acknowledge the passion, dedication and impact of Keep America Beautiful’s affiliates from across the nation as well as partner organizations and individuals who share Keep America Beautiful’s vision of a country in which every community is a clean, green and beautiful place to live. Established in 1953, Keep America Beautiful consists of a national network of more than 620 statewide and community-based affiliates whose programs, initiatives and efforts, supported by millions of volunteers, help transform public spaces into beautiful places.

Grand Prairie ISD Counseling Services distinguished itself for its outstanding community work on the GPISD Month of Service in partnership with Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful and the Green and Clean Campus Program.

The first annual GPISD Month of Service took place in April 2016 with the message, “Be kind to the environment.” Working with the campus counselors, Rachel’s Challenge Clubs, and the Green and Clean Clubs, students in grades pre-K through 12, completed environmental service projects with the goals of encouraging teamwork, promoting environmental education, and inspiring ownership of the school and community. Students, staff, and community members from 39 campuses contributed 1,879 volunteer hours to collect 2,135 pounds of trash and 673 pounds of recyclables from 39 acres of land and 8 miles of streets in Grand Prairie resulting in a cost benefit of over $47,181. These projects were organized by GPISD Counseling Services, Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful, and the Green and Clean Campus Program and sponsored by: Albertsons, The Dreamweaver Foundation, Fielder Church, Foresters Financial, Frito Lay, Grand Bank of Texas, Grand Prairie Boys Baseball, Inc., Impact Grand Prairie, Pepsi Co., Sam’s Club, Super Target, and Texas Trust Credit Union.

“Join our team, keep Grand Prairie clean,” said students from Juan N. Seguin Elementary.

The Keep America Beautiful Youth Recognition Awards are open to individuals, youth groups or schools for program activities taking place in the past year.

“These imaginative, inspirational and transformative educators and volunteers help bring to life creative, resourceful and meaningful programs in their communities,” said Mike Rosen, Keep America Beautiful senior vice president, marketing and communications, who served as emcee of the event. “It’s my privilege to recognize Grand Prairie ISD for such valuable, mission-based work that helps their community be more socially connected, environmentally healthy and economically sound.”

The Keep America Beautiful National Conference, its premier educational and networking event, brought together more than 350 leaders from Keep America Beautiful’s national network of affiliates, business leaders, policymakers and other experts who shared innovative ideas and proven strategies to help End Littering, Improve Recycling, and Beautify America’s Communities.

The 2017 Keep America Beautiful National Conference was made possible through the support of some of America’s leading companies, including: Title Sponsor – Wrigley Company Foundation; Leadership Sponsors – Altria, Lowe’s and Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company; Stewardship Sponsors – Anheuser-Busch, Steel Recycling Institute; Strategic Sponsors – Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Northrop Grumman; Supporting Sponsors – Foodservice Packaging Institute, Maryland Environmental Services and Owens-Illinois, Inc.
