Bardin Road Bridge Update

4/4/17 Update:

TxDOT has re-opened the Bardin Road bridge to motorists. The bridge, which was severely damaged by fire in early November 2016, had repairs to replace the beams and the bridge deck where the fire damaged the bridge. 3/1/17 Update:

As part of the Bardin Road Bridge reconstruction, the westbound I-20 ramp to southbound SH 360 will be closed for construction starting 9 p.m. Friday, March 3, through 6 p.m. Monday, March 6, weather permitting. Motorists should expect delays, and alternate routes are encouraged.

In February, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) awarded the emergency contract to repair the Bardin Road bridge for $1.2 million to SCR Civil Construction, LLC. The bridge, which was severely damaged by fire, will have repairs to replace the beams and the bridge deck where the fire damaged the bridge.

Completion of the repairs is scheduled for this spring. Incentives for early completion are included in the contract, as well as penalties for late completion.

2/9/17 Update:

TxDOT has awarded the emergency contract to repair the Bardin Road bridge for $1.2 million to SCR Civil Construction, LLC. The bridge, which was severely damaged by fire in early November, will have repairs to replace the beams and the bridge deck where the fire damaged the bridge.

Night work will begin this month with preparations for reconstruction of the bridge and with the manufacturing of bridge beams off-site. Once the bridge beams are completed, work will then continue on-site. Occasional nighttime closures of the westbound Interstate 20 ramp to southbound State Highway 360 will be necessary during construction.

Completion of the repairs is scheduled for this spring. Incentives for early completion will be included in the contract, as well as penalties for late completion. TxDOT will send an update on the progress of construction in March.

1/27/17 Update:

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has completed the design for the repair of the Bardin Road bridge and will award an emergency contract in early February 2017. The bridge, which was severely damaged by fire in early November, will have repairs to replace the beams and the bridge deck where the fire damaged the bridge.

Work will begin in February with the construction of bridge beams off-site, and then continue on-site afterwards. Total construction time is approximately four months. Incentives for early completion will be included in the contract, as well as penalties for late completion. TxDOT will send an update on the progress of construction in March.

12/8/16 Update:

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is quickly moving forward with plans to replace the damaged elements of the Bardin Road bridge over State Highway 360 through the use of an emergency contract. The Bardin Road bridge, which was severely damaged by fire in early November, will have repairs to replace the beams and the bridge deck where the fire damaged the bridge. Work will start after a contractor has been selected and materials and equipment are mobilized.

Work could begin early 2017 with the construction of bridge beams off-site, and the repairs will take several months to complete. TxDOT will continue to send updates as the construction schedule is determined and after the design is complete and a contractor is awarded the project.

11/21/16 Update:

The Bardin Road bridge over SH 360 in Arlington remains closed for safety concerns after it was severely damaged when a trailer transporting propane tanks caught fire and burned underneath the bridge on Nov. 4, 2016.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) engineers are testing the bridge to determine what repairs are needed before it is safe to reopen the bridge. TxDOT reports that they are quickly moving forward with the intent to repair the bridge as soon as possible and they appreciate the patience of motorists as a solution is developed.
